James Diezal Vincent, Jr. “Nootney” son of the late Lillian Vincent Willis, the late James D. Vincent, Sr. and stepson to Russell Willis was sent to his eternal home on Sunday, December 8, 2024. James was born on January 10, 1958 in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was reared in a close and loving family with his aunts, uncles and cousins. He attended New Hanover County schools and graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 1976. James received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Education from East Carolina University. He was employed with ECU Health in Information Services for 30 years until he retired in 2015. He was accomplished in his field and mastered many areas in his department. James dedicated his life to Christ at an early age under the tutelage of his grandmother, Mrs. Louise Merrick at Mt. Zion AME Church, where he sang in the D. Morrison Jr. Choir and Youth Choir. Those who knew Nootney will remember him for his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh leaving a lasting impact on all those who crossed his path. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and playing golf. He loved his Dallas Cowboys and three furbabies, Prince, CoCo and Kobe. He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. James married his childhood sweetheart, Carmen Robinson, on August 13, 1983. From this union their only child was born, a son, James Diezal Vincent III “Trey.” Trey and his wife, Candis blessed the Vincents with three wonderful grandchildren, Jazzmya, Janiyah and Jordan, who were the joys of his life. James was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Vincent Willis; father, James D. Vincent, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Louise Merrick; maternal grandfather, Mr. Walter Gause; paternal grandmother, Rosalie Vincent; paternal grandfathers, Oscar Moseley and Morris Vincent; maternal aunt, Gwendolyn Toomer; and maternal uncle, Walter Gause. Left to cherish his memory is a devoted wife of 41 years, Carmen Robinson-Vincent; one loving son, James “Trey” Vincent III (Candis); three grandchildren, Jazzmya, Janiyah and Jordan; stepfather, Russell Willis; sister, Gwendolyn Willis; nieces, Natalya Grady, Terrilyn Robinson; nephew, Russell V. Willis; aunts, Gale Washington Tyler (Roderick), Barbara Dorlus, Sylvia Gause, Lynda Moseley; uncle, Michael Washington; special cousins/brothers, Ronald Toomer, Alonza Toomer (Juanita), Raymond Toomer; special niece, Morgan O’Brien; special friends, Frankie Bordeaux (Faye), James Jones (Beverlyn); a host of other relatives and friends.
