Harold Lorenzo Person, 67, of Greenville, N.C., passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025. Born on August 18, 1957, Harold was the son of the late Harold Roman Person and Joyce Bobbitt Person. He grew up in Enfield, N.C., and graduated from Enfield High School in 1975. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the post-Vietnam era. Following his military service, Harold furthered his education, earning an associate degree from Edgecombe Community College and pursuing studies in Criminal Justice. Harold dedicated 32 years of service to the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Among the many friendships he formed, he found a special bond with George “Big Foot” Hines, Clinton Cheek, and Tyrone Williams. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, he made a lasting impact on both his colleagues and community. Beyond his professional life, Harold was a man of many joys. He loved taking road trips to the beach, attending festivals, enjoying live bands, and most of all, spending time with his family. In addition, he served as a past worshipful master of Mt. Hermon Lodge #35 Masons in Greenville, N.C. A devoted Washington Redskins fan, he cheered them on with unwavering loyalty. Harold was preceded in death by his first spouse, Sheila C. McWilliams, and his father, Harold Roman Person. Harold is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Brewington Person; his three children, Lorenzo Akiem of Raleigh, LaTricia of Rocky Mount, and Damion of Greenville; his three grandchildren, Kayla, Jada, and Amari; his mother, Joyce L. Person of Enfield, NC; three siblings, Marilyn Person Turner of Enfield, Dr. Doris Person of Lewes, DE, and Tony Person (Vivian) of Enfield; two loving aunts, Dorothy Bobbitt of Enfield and Lillian Person Flood of Baltimore, MD; goddaughter, Gabrielle Person of Enfield; In-laws: Rose Lee Brewington of Greenville, Jesse T. Brewington (Ezzie) of Greenville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Harold will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend—a man whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and love to all who knew him. Additionally, he was a no-nonsense individual that believed in a disciplined life and truly enjoyed structure.
