Life’s Journey “If I can help somebody along the way, O Lord don’t let my living be in vain.” Precious in the sight of God! On April 10, 2012, Mother Gladys Ellison Bunn, her work here was done, so the Lord called her from this earthly home to her eternal home. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus, Our Lord. Mother Bunn was born February 24, 1929 to the late Joseph Mack Ellison and Nellie Cherry in Edgecombe County. She was the fourth of fifteen siblings and received her formal education in Edgecombe County School System. Mother Bunn was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Robert Bunn Jr. on November 1, 1950. Together they established a loving home and were blessed with five children. Mother Bunn worked on the farms in Edgecombe and Pitt County for many years and later worked for Carolina Leaf Tobacco Company in Greenville, NC. She later became a house sitter and care giver to further provide for her family. She enjoyed helping at her son, Dennis and daughter in law, Julie Bunn’s daycare called “Down to Earth”. She was faithful in assisting them until her health began to fail. Mother Bunn had a passion for fishing, gardening, canning, cooking, and helping people. She found joy in reading God’s Holy word and praying on a daily basis. She also loved attending Sunday School, Bible Study, Ushering, and singing those good ole’ hymns and hearing “Primitive Baptist preaching as well. Mother Bunn was a virtuous and regal spiritual woman who loved the Lord, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family members, and friends. She never met a stranger and with that to said Mother Bunn adopted a baby “Jersey” Spencer (Kenya) in Hayes Chapel. Before her health failed, she was very active in her church and her community. She was a member of the old Wynns Chapel located in Robersonville, NC for numerous years where she ushered, sung in the gospel choir, and served on the mission board. Later on in her spiritual walk she was led by God to worship with Hayes Chapel, where she felt the love of God and the holy spirit. After becoming a member she was placed on the Mother Board until her illness. Eventhough her health was declining she still kept the faith, never lost her touch with God and always wore her smile. She was a genuine Christian. Mother Bunn was preceded in death by William Ellison, Joe Mack Ellison, Arlester Ellison, Minnie Richardson, Arister Staton, Charlie Ellison, Addie Willis, Mammie Best, and Manervia Williams. Mother Bunn leaves to cherish her precious memories: one daughter, Juanita B Quitman Atlanta, GA; four sons, Robert Bunn, III (Mary) Robersonville, NC, Cedric L. Bunn (Sybil) Greenville, NC, Donnie E. Bunn Atlanta, GA and Dennis Bunn, Jr. (Julie) Bethel, NC.; two sisters, Nannie Dockery Scotland Neck, NC and Mary Cross Hobgood, NC; three brothers, Arthur Ellison, Simon Ellison, both from Tarboro, NC and James Ellison (Ollie) New Jersey; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Purvis (Joseph) Greenville, NC, Viola Christian (Andrew) Chesapeake, VA and Mary Purvis (Jake) Bethel, NC; three brothers-in-law, Sterling Bunn (Ann) Greenville, NC, Zackary Bunn (Faye) Danbury, Ct and Zelba T. Bunn Greenville, NC. Fifteen Grandchildren, five great grandchildren, adopted son, Jersey; special friend/family, Dr. A. Everette, James, Nancy, Sarah Horne and Janie Manning and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
