The Rountree family is sad to announce the passing of Mr. George L Rountree on Thursday, February 20,2025. A repass will immediately follow service. In lieu of flowers, the family of Mr George Rountree will be accepting donations to New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church for a memorial scholarship fund for higher education. George Linwood Rountree, was born on March 16, 1936 to Linwood and Hattie Williamston-Rountree. Affectionately known as “Tree” to many he was educated in the public schools of Perquimans County, North Carolina and New York City, New York. After completion of high school in 1954 he served his country by enlisting in the Air Force. While serving his country he was trained in radiation technology. After an honorable discharge in 1958 George again choose to serve his community as a New York City Police Officer for eleven years. While a police officer George also moonlighted as X-Ray technician with skills learned during his tenure with the Air Force. After his time with NYPD George transitioned to a career in X-ray technology for the next forty years working at medical facilities in New York City and its surrounding areas. After a rewarding career George returned to Perquimans County where he continued to serve his community. One of George’s favorite pastimes was being on his motorcycle on the open road as soon as the weather permitted. The passion for motorcycles leads to being a charter member of Newcomers Motorcycle Club. George was an active member of additional organizations including the Free Masons and American Legion #362. George was an experienced outdoorsman that always looked forward to the next season. Those who spent time with George were aware of his unrivaled enthusiasm for fishing and hunting. In addition to the outdoors, he was an avid lover of sports, blues music, photography and traveling. George’s commitment and unwavering attention to family was paramount. The desire to instill, encourage and support family in their endeavors has always been a priority. Sharing wisdom, guidance and experiences, especially with his grandchildren, was a great source of pride. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Henry, daughter, Lisa and grandson, Anthony Nelson Jr. To cherish his memories are Wife and Companion of over 42 years Karen Wilkerson-Rountree; his children, Marian R Nelson (Tony), Victoria Rountree, Jean Speights, Jeanette Speights, Erika Rountree, Tanya Rountree, Carmen Rountree, Bryant Wilkerson (Sigme), Jennifer Combs (Demetrius) and Paul Bobb (Andrea) as well as host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
