Mr. George Angelo Harrell,75, peacefully transitioned from this life on August 9, 2024 at East Carolina University Hospital, surrounded by his family . George Angelo Harrell was born to the late George and Elizabeth Harrell of Gatesville, NC, on September 1, 1948. George was a faithful Christian. He grew up in Walton-Grove AME Zion Church in Hobbsville, NC, which was just a few miles from where he lived. There, he was baptized and taught the principles of Christian discipleship. George was faithful to God and in church activities. After marrying the love of his life, Alice, He joined her church Wells Chapel Church of God in Christ and was a faithful member. There, he attended Sunday school and was a member of the male chorus. He attended the church with joy in his heart, as long as his health permitted and remained a member until his death. George graduated from Central High School, Gatesville, NC in 1967. After high school, he attended Pitt Technical Institution, in Greenville, NC and received his associate degree from there in 1969. After earning his associate degree from Pitt Technical Institution, he worked in DC at the Pentagon. Later, he worked in Greenville at Union Carbide and East Carolina University until his retirement. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Harrell; his father and mother-in-law, William and Ruby Filmore; one brother, Charles Harrell; one sister-in-law, Peoria Taft; two brothers in law, Herbert Filmore and William Filmore Jr. George leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alice Filmore Harrell; two sons, Angelo Jerome Harrell of Albany NY, Gerald Lamont Harrell of Stephens City, VA; one daughter, Stephanie Denise Harrell of the home; three grandchildren, Jaylynn Harrell (Johnny Sapp Jr.) of Columbus GA, Patrick Harrell of Stephens City, VA, Alisha Harrell of the home; three great-grandchildren, Kenya Grice of Eden, Grice and Johnny Sapp III; two sisters, Ernestine Wiggins of Elizabeth City, NC, Alice “Carolyn” Tharrington (Lynwood) of Durham, N C; two brothers, Therodore “Ted” Harrell of Gatesville, NC, David Harrell of Camdem, NC; three sisters-in-law, Donna Totten (David) of Pelham, NC, Francis Filmore of Greenville, NC, Essie Filmore of Greenville, NC; two brothers-in-law, Stacy Clark (Debra) of Greenville, NC, Sheldon Clark of Greenville, NC; a host of nieces, nephews ,cousins and a very large church family.
