Mr. Francis Keith Spivey

On the 28th day of November 1962, the late Joseph and Annie Ruth Spivey celebrated the arrival of a man that would touch the lives of many and leave his love with a non-erasable imprint on the hearts of all. Francis Keith Spivey was not oblivious to the assignment on his life because he demonstrated it by exhibiting his caring persona and was the example of what brotherhood looked like. Unaware of the appointment and strategic timing of God that we all own, we humbly submitted to the will of God on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 31, 2023, and held Francis hands as he peacefully transitioned from earth to eternity surrounded by the love of his family. Although it was hard to let him go, we understood that to be absent from the body is to present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Growing up in the small town of Windsor, Francis was educated through the Bertie school system and while attending Bertie Senior High, He played baseball with the community little league. The teams were called the Cooper Hill Pirates and the Cedar Landing All Stars. He played basketball with Spivey’s Auto. He also obtained his first job as a bus driver. This job was the catalyst of his working career that demonstrated his faithfulness, hardworking and dedication in the workforce. After graduation, Francis obtained a position at Lea Lumber Company in Windsor, NC where he worked diligently until he gained new employment at Perdue in Lewiston, NC as a Foreman where he increased production and elevated the quality and standard in his department. He also coached basketball for the Perdue league at their charity events. He remained committed to his position until his health began to fail and could no longer fulfill his assigned duties. Cupid threw his arrow and it hit the heart of Francis when he caught the eye of Annie. As their love grew, Francis was smitten by the elegance of his Queen. Francis proposed and they were joined in holy matrimony on August 5, 1990. In this union, two children were born, Biancia and Dominique, and two children were raised as his own, Latonya and Quinton. At an early age, he joined St Luke Baptist Church in Bertie. Later, he became a member of Smithwick Chapel Church of Christ Disciple of Christ in Williamston, NC where he served devotedly as a Trustee and sung in the Smithwick Chapel Male chorus until his health began to fail. In February 2011, Francis was selected and initiated as a member of George W. Lee Elks Lodge #756 in Windsor, NC. His dedication and reliability elevated him to Esquire. As an Esquire, he demonstrated his prestige as a hard worker and served faithfully that granted him the elevation to the Exalted Ruler for the George W. Lee Elks Lodge #756. While in this position, he also served as Vice Antler for Albemarle Counsel #112. As the Exalted Ruler, he assisted along with members with George W. Lee Elks scholarship program where they presented a student with a scholarship to aid their college education. Francis loved God. His favorite saying was “God Got Me.” He loved family and friends and was the Peacemaker of the group (depending upon who told the story). He had his hands in everything and made sure that the family stayed close and together. He loved fishing, riding motorcycles, getting his hands dirty, working on the farm and vehicles. What he did not fix, he kept it around promising to repair what he broke. Francis is preceded in death by two sister-in laws, Mary Corey and Barbara Matthewson; two brother-in laws Mitchell Peele and Hallis Peele Jr. Francis will be missed by his devoted and loving wife of 33 years, Annie Peele Spivey; four children, Biancia Spivey, Dominique Spivey, Quinton Peele and Latonya Knight (Cedrick); two sisters, Verna Spivey-Carter and Darleen Spivey; five brothers, Robert Spivey, James Spivey, Johnny Spivey, Jerry Spivey and Jeffrey Spivey (Bertha); five sister-in laws; Katie Manning, Paulette Myrick, Janie Knight, Jeannette Spruill, and Bertie Brown; four brother-in laws, Leo Peele, Bishop Steve Peele, Dwight Peele(Ernestine), Douglas Peele; eight grandchildren; Joshua Bland, Indiya Bland, Asiya Grimes, Dominique Spivey Jr, Dimires Peele, Harmoni Peele, Jatya Peele, and Nivek Peele, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He loved life and touched many people. In the words of Francis, Family, God Got Us!!!
