Ms. Fairy Mae Pugh

Fairy Mae Whitaker Pugh was born in Robersonville, NC on April 14, 1943 to the late James Ed Whitaker and the late Fairola Harrell Whitaker. Fairy departed this life on Monday, September 30, 2019 at her home in Charlotte, NC. Fairy attended the public schools of Martin County and was a graduate of East End High School in Robersonville, NC. Fairy attained her nursing assistant degree from Martin Community College, Williamston, NC, and started working at Albemarle Villa also in Williamston, NC as a Nursing Assistant. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ, and joined Way of The Cross Church, and later, The Friendly Church of Apostolic Faith Inc., under the leadership of Bishop Leroy Newman. She was a part of the usher’s board and the music ministry. Fairy Mae was united in holy matrimony to Louis Ray Pugh in March of 1964. This union was blessed with two children; Mae Fairly Pugh Brown and the late James Gardner Pugh. Fairy Mae relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1992. She began her long tenure of work at Hunter Woods Nursing Home where she cared for countless individuals and families. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many and valued her family to great esteem. Fairy Mae was a devout Christian and was an active member of Samaritan House Intl. Ministries, under Apostle Ronn Long. Fairy served on the Intercessory Prayer team and she was eventually appointed Head Mother of the mother’s board. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Fairy was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Ray Pugh; her beloved son, James “Boot” Gardner Pugh; parents, James Ed and Fairola Harrell Whitaker; brothers, Henry Lee “Bud” Harrell, James Weston “Whit” Whitaker; sister-in-law, Dorothy Pugh Bryant; brother-in-law, Rasper Pugh. Fairy’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the life of her daughter, Mae Fairly Pugh “Polly” Brown of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Shelia Vickers Pugh of Montgomery, AL; step-daughter, Dorothy Maria Brown of St. Stephens, SC; God-son, Damien Stanley of Charlotte, NC; mother-in-law, Lossie Bell Williams Pugh of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Larenza Jose’ Pugh (Donne’) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Katrina Josette Brown of Charlotte, NC, Wykesia Renee Brown of Raleigh, NC, Frederick Douglas “Dougie” Rose IV of Charlotte, NC, James Dwayne Pugh (Patrina) of Memphis, TN, Ja’ Shawn “Luggie” Donovan Pugh of Montgomery, AL, Kieron Paulin of Ladson, SC; sister-in-law, Winnie Staton Harrell of Parmele, NC, Henrietta Whitaker of Sumter, SC, Bertha Watts of Hamden, CT, Edna Pugh Leggette of Greenville, NC; brothers-in-law, Alonzo Pugh of New Haven, CT, Floyd Pugh (Rosa) of Simpson, NC, Thomas Pugh (Eva) of Greenville, NC, William Pugh (Rosemary) of Grimesland, NC, Jimmy Bryant of New Haven, CT; aunts, Lether Harrell Jenkins of Greeville, NC, Nora Harrell Worsley of Bethel, NC; beloved aunt-in-law, Gloristine Harrell of Chocowinty, NC; ten great-grandchildren; two devoted nurses, Ray Smith and Toya Thompson; two loving friends, Lucy Irwin and Otis Cartledge; a host of deeply loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
