Tributes

Early Saturday morning on January 21, 2017, an angel took the hand of our beloved mother, Eva Woolard Thomas, at her daughter Beverly’s home in Bowie, Maryland. Eva was the daughter of the late Reverend Jesse and Mrs. Australia Collins Lee. She was born on January 9, 1933, in Martin County, North Carolina. Eva was educated in the Martin County School System. At an early age during a revival at St. Mark Church of Christ where her father was the guest preacher, she found Christ and joined St. Mark. She loved the Lord and became a longtime, devoted member who served the church in many capacities, including singing in the choir, and as a member of the Mother Board. Eva worked in childcare at Smiling Faces Day Care Center before retiring and volunteering her time in nursing homes and visiting the sick and shut in. She was a very kind, loving and caring person who touched the lives of so many people. She always had room for a child in need, and became a foster parent to several children. She was a great friend and an extremely supportive and devoted mother and grandmother. Eva married Oliver Woolard, and from this union, four children were born. Two children, Velma Woolard Latham and Jerry Davis Woolard preceded her in death. Eva leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters, Marilyn Woolard Perkins of Greenville, NC, Beverly Woolard Paul (a devoted son-in-law, Hank) of Bowie, MD; son-in-law, Clarence Latham of Emporia, VA; special friends in Christ, Clarence Highsmith and family; siblings, Flonnie Slade of Williamston, NC, Leamon Lee (Anita) of Emerald Isle, NC, Elsie Rattliff of Raleigh, NC, Evora Rodgers (David) of Williamston, NC; a devoted niece, Melinda Slade of Williamston, NC; ten grandchildren, a devoted granddaughter, Nia Woolard (a devoted grandson-in-law, Travis), Pamela Clemmons, Katrina Churn (Eric), India Hassell, Omar Perkins (Kisha), Shannon Perkins (Orlando), Jerry Woolard II (Shannon), Tarik Paul (Yordanos), Adanna Paul, and Semira Paul; eight great-grandchildren, Kama Woolard, Star Latham, Khadejah Little, Kandace Clemmons, Tasheene (T.J.) Hassell, Aubrey Perkins, Jeremiah Woolard, Tarik-Henry Paul II, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church members and friends.
