Ms. Eva Hargrave

Eva Mae Coleman ~ Hargrave known as “Sister” was born on November 26, 1940, in Williamston, NC to the late Sam and Napoleon Brown. Eva Mae departed this life on June 6, 2023 at St. Joseph Towson, Maryland. Eva Mae at an early age accepted Christ and joined Cedar Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Williamston, NC. She also, was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Baltimore, Maryland. She enjoyed being an usher, attending/teaching Sunday School and she was a devoted Bible Study participant, too until her health declined. Eva Mae graduated from E. J. Hayes High School and received her degree in Early Childhood from Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC. She taught second grade at Sarah M. Roach Elementary School, Baltimore, Maryland. Teaching was a passion and love she had for making a positive change for every child she taught. Eva Mae served many leadership roles throughout her career. Eva Mae loved her family and never met a stranger. She was at her best when she was spending time with her family. Eva Mae was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was in the home and cared for by her niece, Raven Rascoe, Baltimore, Maryland. Eva Mae loved a clean house and was an excellent decorator too! Reading the Bible, listening to her spiritual music, gardening, shopping were some of the things she enjoyed. Eva Mae loved her clothes, jewelry, pocketbooks and shoes which was a must to match when she went places. She always had a dainty walk and greeted you with a smile, and short conversation if time allowed! Her favorite foods were a hamburger, fries and a coke from McDonald. Eva Mae could eat this morning, noon and night, smile. Eva Mae was preceded in death by her son, Al Duonta Brown; her husbands, Dorsie Coleman and Richard Hargrave; four brothers, Octavis Brown, Ulysses Brown, James E. Brown, James Willie Brown, James B. Brown; three sisters, Pearline Outterbridge, Carrie Bell and Eula Mae Jones. Eva Mae leaves to cherish her memories, grandson, Al Duronta, Jr; great-granddaughter, A’kiah Brown; stepdaughter, Betty Anne Coleman all of Baltimore, Maryland; her brother, Sam Brown (Betty) of Danville, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brown and Bertie Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
