Life Story Of Emma Carolyn Williams Emma Carolyn was a very beautiful, warm, compassionate and vibrant woman who always went out of her way to help others. She was born on September 25, 1937, to the late Edward & Ethel Nelson. Emma was raised in North Carolina in a very loving Christian home with her brothers and sisters. During her school years Carolyn played a variety of sports in which she excelled. She was a people person who formed many long-lasting friendships over the years. She was a proud and dignified woman who had a passion for life. Carolyn was brought up with traditional values and learned the skills that a woman of her era should—cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting in which she excelled; she also had a love of people and a love of life. That love of life and people led Carolyn to move to Brooklyn, New York after graduating High School. She found employment at the phone company in New York. Carolyn later met, courted and married the late Edgar P. Williams who preceded her in death. From their union they were blessed with three children (Jerrold, Dwayne and Carol). The family then moved from Brooklyn, New York to Queens New York. Carolyn found employment at the Health Center. She loved helping people and became very active in the union. Carolyn also helped with the board of elections. Feeling the need to help others, Carolyn went back to school, attending York College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. She decided to leave the Health Center to work as a Social Worker for the City of New York. Her dedication was really seen when the twin towers were bombed, and she worked tirelessly to help service the people of New York. Carolyn was an adviser, a friend who was there for you, a cheerleader when you need that support and a fighter for all who needed defending. She poured out her love and spirit to those she met. Carolyn stepped in and became a mother figure to so many people who referred to her as Mama Williams. She always did this with style and class. After retiring from Social Work, Carolyn moved to Florida where she spent the remainder of her days. She leaves to morn, her son, Dwayne Williams (Arlene) of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Carol Williams of Ocoee, Florida; seven grandsons; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; her dearly devoted brother, William Nelson of Washington, NC; brother-n-law, James Holley of Washington, NC; two sisters-n- law, Cleopatra Bragg of New York, Thelma Nelson of Washington, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too many to name. I don’t know how we will cope without her—it leaves a massive hole in our lives. I encourage everyone to draw strength from our Lord and Savior, remember the things she taught us the words of advice she instilled in you. Remember the love and the laughter and the open arms she greeted you with. “Accept the things you cannot change and change the things you can”. On September 18, 2019 God called home his earthly angel, for Emma down went the sun; It was time for her to go home and hear our Heavenly Father say well done. Gone but not forgotten. We love you Emma Carolyn Williams but we know God loved you best…
