Mrs. Ellen Turner

Mother Ellen Moore Turner, daughter of the late Oscar and Crissie Moore, was born on December 26, 1928 in Blounts Creek, NC. At the age of 13, she became a member of St. Anna M.B. Church.She attended the Blounts Creek and Aurora Schools. Ellen was united in Holy Matrimony to Adam Augustus Turner, who preceded her in death on September 21, 1984. She was employed as the Supervisor of Housekeeping for many years with the former Britthaven Nursing Home Mother Ellen truly loved the Lord, her family, her church, her Union and Association. She attended Sunday School and Bible Study as long as her health permitted. She would faithfully visit the sick and shut-in and make reports to the Church on the individuals’ status. She often took care of cleaning materials for Holy Communion at St. Anna and the Association. She loved to cook and has baked many cakes for Association functions. Along with Sisters Mulgray Moore and Hazel Moore, Mother Ellen was instrumental in starting the first youth choir and usher board at St. Anna. Some of her many accomplishments include: • Appointed to the Mother Board of St. Anna under Pastor Cleve Bryant • Usher at St. Anna • Member & President of St. Anna Sr. Choir • Member of Association Unity Mass Choir • Member of Beaufort/Pitt County Union Adult Choir - would notify all choir members about rehearsals and services • Member of the Great Commission • Diligent in helping to acquire funding for various Church and Association projects • Attended and served as delegate for the Union and Association for many years • Regularly attended the General Baptist State Convention • Member and treasurer of Beaufort/Pitt County-Wide Circle On Saturday, October 7th, Mother Ellen was called into a peaceful and eternal rest. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sons, 2 grandsons, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. To cherish her memory, she leaves 4 daughters, Queenie T. Moore of Blounts Creek, NC, Darlene T. Moore of Washington, NC, Judith T. Chapman (Elvis) of Blounts Creek, NC, and Michelle S. Smith of Raleigh, NC; 3 sons, Eddie Wayne Moore of Blounts Creek, NC, Jerome N. Moore (Evangeline) of Columbia, SC, and Michael A. Simpson (Maria) of Tucson, AZ; 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Annie M. Moore (Frank) of Durham, NC; 1 brother, Arthur Randolph Moore (Annie) of Lanham, MD; 1 daughter-in-law, Carrie Turner of Washington, NC; 1 sister-in-law, Mrs Ruby Nash of Greensboro; godchildren, Elder John and Oriel Wells of New York, NY, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
