Mother Dr. Pennie Saunders Roberson, daughter of the late Leroy and Betty Saunders was born January 30, 1928 in Robersonville, North Carolina. She departed this life Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Vidant Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina. Mother Dr. Pennie Roberson graduated from the 11th grade in Jamesville, NC. Later her desire for learning led her to Martin Community College where she completed her GED studies about 1983, in her late 50’s. Mother Dr. Pennie Roberson entered St. Augustine Theological Institute in 1996. She was in the First Class & one of the first teachers at this Bible College. Mother Dr. Roberson received honors in all her classes. She received her Bachelor of Religious Education -1997, Bachelor of Theology -1998, Masters of Religious Education, 1999- Doctor of Divinity degree and her Doctor of Sacred Theology degree in 2000. She addressed us at each graduation with inspiring words of wisdom. Realizing the need for Christian fellowship, she joined Belmont Missionary Baptist Church where she remained an active member until her demise. She also served as president of the chorus and later became a Church Mother. She loved her Pastor, his wife and her church family. In our family memories of her preaching and teaching to her children in the home, the endless trips to Sunday school/church also playing her piano along with singing songs of Zion. OUR MOTHER KEPT HER FAITH IN GOD UNTIL THE END. She met and married Samuel Thomas Roberson and of this union five children were born- Dorothy, Vera, Evelyn, Jeannie and Faeroes. Our father and mother -Deacon Samuel Roberson and his wife shared a life of church worship, husband and wife bible lessons together, morning prayers, and fasting for their children and family. She left a legacy of books of sermons that we pray her grands may publish in her honor. She was preceded in death by seven siblings: one sister, Louray Lynch; six brothers , Lester Saunders, Chester Saunders, Leroy Saunders, Leo Saunders, Eddie Grimes, and Johnny Grimes. Mother Dr. Penny Roberson leaves to cherish her memories: Her beloved husband Samuel (S. T.) Roberson; five children Dorothy Moore, Dr. Vera Alexander ( Willie), Faeroes Roberson of Robersonville, NC, Evelyn Teele (Larry) of Everett, NC, and Jeannie Alston of Rocky Mount, NC; grandchildren; greatgrandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Brown, Dr. Melvina Wilson both of Maryland, Allie G. Highsmith, Bethel, NC, Annie L. Davis (Bill) Norfolk, VA; one brother ,Willie Grimes (Constance) Norfolk, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
