Douglas Ray Edwards was born into this world on October 1,1960 and departed this world peacefully, on March 6, 2024. Douglas was the son of the late Ella Jean Edwards Crandol and Thomas Ray Newton. Douglas attended Public School in Greenville North Carolina and graduated from J.H Rose High School in 1980. Douglas was always the best dressed in school and was often called “Doug E Fresh” and “Mr. Do Right” by his peers. After high school Douglas took courses at Pitt Community College but decided to not further his education but to follow his heart and drive trucks for a living. Douglas lived a fulfilled life of Leisure, Fun and Harmony. He worked as a truck driver for Taft Office Equipment until his health started to decline. Douglas enjoyed Singing and Dancing and uplifting others. He could sometimes be heard saying “I Feel Good!” and “Get on the Good Foot!.” He was often seen dancing like the late James Brown and was often heard singing songs by the Isley Brothers. Douglas loved Cadillacs, shades and living life to the fullest! Douglas was always the “Life Of the Party” and no one would ever hear Douglas doing any complaining. His favorite saying was “It’ll be Alright.” Douglas met Maureen Jennings Edwards in Paterson, New Jersey whom he later married and that union produced 5 daughters. Douglas was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Jean Edwards Crandol; his father, Thomas Ray Newton; his brother, William Randy Crandall; his stepmother, Deloris Newton. Douglas leaves to cherish his memories, Natasha Corrine McCall (Timothy) of Tannersville, PA, Mae Edwards of Greenville, NC, Yvonne Edwards (Jamar Roach) of Grimesland, NC, Crystal Edwards of Greensboro, NC and Candace Edwards of Wilson, NC; 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, his sister, Laquetta Crandol Joyner (William, Jr) of Fort Washington, MD; his stepfather, William Crandol of Fort Washington, MD; stepsisters, Andrea West Newton of Stamford, CT, Renee Newton of Virginia Beach; stepbrothers, Alvin Newton of Stamford, CT and Albert Newton of Stamford, CT; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
