Doris L. Barrett Dixon, the daughter of the late Joseph Barrett and the late Lena Wilks Barrett, was born December 23, 1941 in Beaver Dam Township, Pitt County of Greenville, North Carolina. While at home with her eldest daughter and caregiver, Debbie Jackson; she peacefully went to her eternal rest on Sunday, June 25, 2017 to be with her Lord and Savior, in her heavenly estate. Doris received her education at Pitt County Training School in Greenville, North Carolina. Doris joined John T. Dixon, Jr. in matrimony 49 years ago in Stanford, Connecticut. She later moved with her husband and children to Newark, NJ; where she was a happy home worker that nurtured her family with unconditional love. That dedication and compassion was extended to her mother, to whom she was caretaker, until her earthly departure. Her sheltering arms, also welcomed multiple neighborhood children to her residence when their families were in distress, her home became affectionately known as “the rescue house”. Doris returned to her hometown of Greenville, NC in 1995 where she worked diligently several years as a Home Health Aide, she later retired from Aramark at East Carolina University. Her favorite pastimes were playing bingo, card games and cooking her soulful meals. She was the life of the family and friends get-togethers, and she’ll truly be missed for the joy and laughter she brought to everyone’s heart and spirit. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Barrett and Lena Wilks Barrett; two children, Tyrone Dixon and Kimberley A. Dixon; one brother, Joseph “JT” Barrett, Jr.; six sisters, Mildred Hemby (Joe), Jessie Mae Crandle (Paul), Geraldine Moore, Lena Joyce Barrett, Marjorie Dean Boyd (William) and Christine Woodson (Leslie); daughter-in-law Leatha Y. Pearson Dixon; father-in-law, Herman Dobson; two brothersin- law, Joseph Dixon and Ike Hardy. Doris leaves to cherish her memories husband, John T. Dixon, Jr.; she’s also lovingly survived by eldest daughter, Debbie L. Jackson of Atlanta, GA; youngest son, Joel L. Dixon, Sr. of Newark, NJ; grandsons, Khalif Jackson, Quionne Harrison, Gregory Dante Revelle and Joel L. Dixon, Jr.; grand-daughters Ni’kia Whitehurst, Joelyn Jobe, Kimora Dixon; great- grandson, Kamar Jackson; great-granddaughters, Michelle Christina Whitaker, Ayla Harrison, Sofia Villar Harrison; sister, Carolyn Williams (Kelly); mother-in-law, Edna Dobson; sisters-in-law, Pauline Barrett, Linda Dixon, Darice Dixon and Viscurtine “Tine” Hardy; brothers-in-law, Jerome Dixon, Kelly Williams and Austin Moore, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
