Tributes

A precious gift, Donshae Tayvon Miller was given to his parents, Carolina Jean Miller and Joe Lawrence Battle on January 7, 1997 in New Bern, North Carolina. Donshae entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 9, 2018 in Wilmington, North Carolina. His paternal grandparents were Mr. Clem O. Battle and Mrs. Annie M. Battle; maternal grandparents were Charles H. Miller and Mrs. Clara B Miller. At an early age, Donshae recognized the need for spiritual guidance and he was baptized by Bishop Joseph V. Squires, Sr. He became a member of St. Peter Baptist Church Ministries, Inc. and actively participated in the Dance, Puppet and Music ministries. He attended S.W. Snowden Elementary School, Aurora, North Carolina and graduated from Southside High School, Chocowinity, North Carolina in 2015. While attending Southside High School, he played a vital role in some of the most memorable basketball and football games. He was the point guard for the basketball team and running back/linebacker for the football team that made it to the third round of the State Playoffs. He earned the Coastal Plain's 1A All Conference Award for basketball in 2014 and 2015; MVP for football and basketball in 2014 and 2015. During his senior year, he was named Southside High School Men's Athlete of the Year. Also, Donshae was showcased as WITN's Pepsi Player of the Week in 2014. Not only did Donshae play basketball at Southside, he participated on AAU and Recreational teams in Beaufort and Pamlico counties. At Southside High School, Donshae was acknowledged as Student of the Month with a Citizenship Award and a Character Award from Beaufort County Schools. His memories will be cherished by his beloved mother, Carolina Jean Miller of Aurora, NC; his father, Joe Lawrence Battle (Mary) of Blounts Creek, NC; two sisters, Ayesha Miller of Aurora, NC, Quiesha "Quan" Miller of Wilmington, NC; three brothers, Rokeem Miller of Wilmington, NC, Preston Watson (Karen) of Grifton, NC, Joey Carter (Joenisha) of Chocowinity, NC; three aunts, Nell Bryant and Olether Moore of Aurora, NC, Hilda Tyre of Edward, NC; three uncles, Dalton Tyre (Mesinah) of New Bern, NC, Charles Miller (Ola) of Edward, NC, Donald Miller of Washington, NC; a special nephew, Quamori "Chop" Miller; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
