Donald Wayne Northern was born on November 30, 1960 to Vance Northern and Mabel Pearl Moore in Pamlico County, NC. He departed this life on Friday, May 2, 2025 at his home in Greenville, NC. Donald attended Pamlico County Public Schools where he enjoyed driving the school buses, weightlifting and playing music. He would eventually join a band for a few years playing his bass guitar. Upon graduation, Donald would leave the Bayboro area and relocate to Pitt County where he then began working at Burroughs Wellcome for 15 plus years as a custodian; he then took a position with East Carolina University and there, he worked in Building Services for 20 plus years and was set to retire this November. Donald enjoyed the beach, music, dancing, food and his favorite snacks, popcorn and corn nuts. Donald never met a meal he didn't like and would often rave about how good his stepdaughter, Pokey’s food was and made sure he had his to go plate in hand whenever she cooked. Donald was a big supporter of several local bike and car clubs, was often seen attending various charity events, activities, and social functions. Donald never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone about anything, anywhere. His big joyful laugh, loving and positive personality touched all that knew him; and he would help anyone that needed help, no questions asked. Donald loved to laugh and was a natural comedian. He had some of the best stories from his childhood and throughout his life that would make you laugh until you cried. Donald was a faithful and hard worker, and he had some of the best stories from his time at ECU. Donald was preceded in death by His Loving and Faithful partner of 31 years, Mary Suggs; his parents, Vance Northern and Mabel Pearl Moore; sister, Darlene; brother, Terry. Donald leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Tamika “Tammy” Suggs of Gaithersburg, Maryland; stepdaughter, Sheaneathea “Pokey” Howard of Greenville, NC; stepsons, Thomas ‘TJ’Howard (Tiffany) of Nashville, Rocky Mount, NC, Bobby Howard of Willard, NC and Jamie Suggs of Goldsboro, NC; grandchildren, Rahein Little, Cierra Sutton, Tajia Stanley, Omanti “The Smooch” Streeter, Tyler “Thugga Thugga” Hogans, Thomas “Trey” Howard III, Jordyn Pearson, Jonathan “JJ” Pearson, Jr; six great-grandchildren; special nephews, Velton Northern, Harold Northern; best friend, Brad; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
