Mrs. Christine Bonds

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalms 23:1 Christine Gurganus Bonds’ Holy Spirit and gentle soul, departed from her earthy form and ascended to be one with our Lord on September 5, 2014. Christine was affectionally known as “Chris” by many of her friends but, always Christine by close family. She was born to the union of the late George Haywood and the late Catherine Williams Gurganus on February 2, 1931 in the town of Williamston, NC. She grew up to be a beautiful woman in statue and spirit. Her family and friends loved to be in her presence. She had a happy, quiet and somewhat playful disposition. Christine was educated in the Martin County School System. At an early age, she joined Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and attended faithfully until her health failed. Christine loved and served the Lord everyday of her life. Christine performed her one matrimony union to the love of her life, Joe Henry Bonds on February 14, 1948. To this union, two daughters were born. She devoted her life to her family. Everything she did was an expression of love and caring for others. Christine was a world traveler, traveling to Germany and lived in or traveled through thirty three states within the United States. After traveling with her husband for over 20 years during his service in the U.S. Army, she made Alexandria, Virginia her home for over 30 years. She and Joe Henry moved back to Williamston in 1996 to care for her mother-in-law. Christine was a loving and caring wife for 66 years, as well as a loving mother and grandmother. Christine leaves to cherish her sweet memories; her devoted and loving husband, Joe Henry Bonds; two daughters, Glenda Bonds Davis, Gearlene B. Brown (Octavis); one granddaughter, Monica Danielle Davis all of Washington, DC (Metro Area); first cousin raised as a sister, Mrs. Annis Powell of Brooklyn, NY; a dear cousin, Mrs. Sarah Roberson; a childhood and dear friend, Mrs. Mary R. Joyner; cousins, Cleo and Kent Lee, Effie Thompson, Juanita Scott; a caring and attentive neighbor and friend, Mrs. Naomi Roberts all of Williamston, NC; caregiver, who gave her all, Sara Basden, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
