Mrs. Astria Coppage

Astria Aquenette “Ackie” Coppage was born to Jesse and Maggie Coppage on November 21, 1977. This beautiful, bouncing baby girl proved to be gifted and intelligent from the beginning. Excelling in school and in just about everything she put her hands to, she was a friend to everyone she met. After completing her early education in the Martin County school systems, she briefly attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she played on the intramural basketball team. She later served in the US Army and then attended East Carolina University where she got her degree in social work. This degree set her up for one of her many professional pursuits. In her professional life Astria would say she was a jack of all trades, the master of none. She worked at the real crisis center for the suicide hotline. This is a job that requires real compassion as well as skill, both of which Ackie had in abundance. She was a talented barber owning and operating her own shop. She also owned and operated a successful landscaping business and was an herbalist. These professional pursuits all came after her time serving as a church musician and gifted singer/soloist. Astria became the mother of Aminah on September 19, 2002, a little girl who shared her beauty and smile. She was united in marriage to Lukisha Austin on October 4, 2020. The two of them shared a love of travel and of nature. When asked what memory of Astria is currently strongest of Ackie, Kisha said, it was her availability, while Aminah says it was her strength and her words of wisdom. Specifically, advice that no matter what comes your way, always “keep your mind right,” and “you’re stronger than you know, even in your weakest moments.” Leaved to cherish her memory are her wife, Lukisha; daughter, Aminah; stepson, Syncere; parents, Jesse and Maggie; brother, Ashton (Lakisha); niece, Arie; nephews, Aiden and Kash, a special “niece” Kennedy, and too many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to name.
