Annie Pearl Cherry Bennett, was born on April 12, 1931 to the late Alvin and the late Beulah Cherry. Annie surrendered to the Lord on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Annie received her formative education from the Bertie County School System and after graduation she continued her professional training at the Deshazor’s Beauty College in Durham, North Carolina. Annie also attended Payne Business School in Raleigh, NC and graduated from Shaw University, Raleigh, NC where she was active in several sororities. Upon graduation, Annie worked thirty -six years as a Technician with the U.S. Navy. Annie at an early age was baptized and joined Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church. She later united with Much More Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA where she sang in the Chancellor Choir and Senior Choir. Annie and Benjamin were the “adopted” parents of many young people in their church and community. She was especially eager to mentor young people with a hunger to succeed. She loved serving the people of God. Annie met and married Benjamin F. Bennett in 1952. On their fiftieth wedding anniversary, Annie and Benjamin elected to renew their vows. They were married for sixty-five wonderful years. Upon moving from Philadelphia, PA to Williamston, NC she joined Back Swamp Church of Christ in 2010. She became the Secretary of the In Touch Ministry and participated in the weekly exercise class. Annie’s favorite past time was selling Avon to her many devoted clients. She sold Avon products for over thirty-five years and received several awards from the company for her efforts. Annie also enjoyed reading and cooking for large groups of people. Annie leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, Benjamin F. Bennett of Williamston, NC; three sisters, Laura Hill of Brooklyn, NY, Lenora Alston (Walter) of Washington, DC, Clara Ruth Cherry of Grahamsville, NY; brother-in-law, Jerome Bennett of Williamston, NC; five sisters-in-law, Alma Roberson (Joseph) of Williamston, NC, Janie Teele of Williamston, NC, Grace Coffield (Curtis) of Bridgeport, CT, Mildred Bennett of Stamford, CT, Dorothy Staton of Washington, DC; dear friends, Elizabeth Dowdy of Philadelphia, PA, Honora Manning of Williamston, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
