Rose Marie Henderson Windley, the daughter of the late David and the late Rosa Henderson was born on January 13, 1952 in Belhaven, North Carolina. She was called to continue her service with the Lord on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Rose, who was affectionately known as Marie or “Ree” by close family and friends, grew up in a loving home with her parents and younger brother, David. At a young age, Rose attended White Plains FWB Church and her family later joined St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She attended Belhaven High School and was a 1970 graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School in Belhaven, North Carolina. She furthered her education by studying nursing at the former Beaufort Technical College, graduating in 1973. On November 4, 1972, she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Windley at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Two daughters were born to this union, Kimberly Patrice and Kendra Denise. Rose was dedicated to her nursing career. She served at Pungo District Hospital for over thirty seven years until her retirement. She often said she did not show up to work but to bring “color” to the hospital. However, her demonstrated excellence in nursing affected the lives of most of Belhaven’s residents and inspired many. Rose’s parents instilled the importance of serving God and her community at a young age. Rose instilled these same values in her children. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Community Church where she served on the Finance Ministry and coordinated health fairs. In 1977, she joined Southern Beauty Chapter #46, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA where she was their sitting Worthy Matron. Rose was a member of the Belhaven Alumni Club, Sidney Men’s Club, Women’s Auxiliary and Beaufort County Democratic Women. Rose enjoyed spending time on social media spreading encouragement to her massive number of Facebook friends as well as spending time with the girls at Practicality Hair and Day Spa. She also enjoyed time with her lifetime friends, “The Class of 1970”, events at local churches and outings with her Pungo District Hospital family. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, David and Rosa Henderson; her brother, David Henderson, Jr.; her mother and father in-law, Edward and Rosenell Windley; a sister in law, Semera Henderson; a nephew, David Irwin. Rose leaves many to cherish her memory, her husband, Kenneth; two daughters, Kimberly Windley Manning (Steven) and Kendra Windley Paiz (Brian); three granddaughters, Kandyce Mychelle, Krysten Nycole and Brielle Rose; a grandson, Steven Kole; one great-grandson, Karter Marcellus; a dear first cousin who was like a sister, Sandra Henderson Nelson; three sisters-in-law who were truly her sisters, Sharon, Donna and Sandra; one uncle, David Bryant, Sr.; her lifetime friends known as the “Musketeers”, Patricia, Evangeline and Donna Faye; her longtime coworker and friend, Jacklyn Sparrow; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
