Mother Mary L. McCoy

Mother Mary L. McCoy, affectionately called “Mae Liz”, was born February 13, 1931 in Shiloh, Ga. to the late Owens and the late Maggie Copeland. She attended Valley Grove School in Tax, Ga. Mother Mary was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor G.J. Johnson. At the age of sixteen she accepted Christ into her life. Mother Mary remained there and was an active member of the usher board, and the choir where she was always chosen as the lead soloist on all special programs. In 1953, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to become a caregiver to her uncle, John Copeland where she later met her husband, Winston McCoy who preceded her in death. In 1955, she moved to Buffalo, NY with her husband, Winston McCoy where she worked at Fibron Products until she retired at the age of 72. Mother Mary was gifted with her hands, creating vegetables gardens in the back yard, beautiful landscaping in the front yard, beautiful wood craftsmanship for furniture at work, creating beautiful clothes, and blankets for relatives and friends. The most beautiful work of her hands and heart was the care she gave to her brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, Uncle Leonard and to all who knew and loved her. In 2006, Mother Mary moved to Winterville, NC with her daughter and son in law Cyndi & Tyrone to receive the same care of love she had given in her lifetime from them and many others especially, Queen Cat, Eloise Council & Aunt Ella. She faithfully attended First Church of Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of Pastor Gino Jennings until her passing. Mother Mary was preceded in death by one son, Winfred McCoy; two brothers, Bennie Copeland, Willie Lee Copeland; one sister, Johnnie M. Gross She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Walter Copeland (Teresa); one daughter, Cyndi Rawlings (Tyrone); her beloved grandchildren, Tameka S. Anthony (Fredrico), Winfred D. McCoy Jr., Jasmine J. McCoy, Breanna C. McCoy, Koran D. McCoy, Isaiah W. Copeland; great grandchildren, A'mya J. Pettimalone, Dashanti Anthony, Devonte Anthony, Detroion Pittman; sisters and brother, Annie C. Smith, Minnie B. Ferguson, and Sherlene Kelley all of Cleveland, Ohio, Charlie J. Copeland of Atlanta, Ga.; longtime faithful friend, Uncle Leonard Joshua; beloved aunt, Sarah Massey of Detroit MI; daughter in law, Sharon McCoy, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
