Kenneth Hemby

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” 2nd Timothy 4:7 Kenneth Hemby was born to Luther and Evelyn Hemby in Edward, North Carolina on September 17, 1957. He departed this life on Thursday March 31, 2022. Kenneth grew up in Edward and graduated from Aurora High School in 1975. After graduating from high school, Kenneth served in the US Marine Corp and received an honorable discharge. He was reared in a Christian home and became a member of Holy Temple Church where he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He loved his church and faithfully served as an Usher. He then moved to Maryland and subsequently to New York where he lived for several years. Upon returning home to Edward, he worked for Texas Gulf and Nance-Jordan Nurseries. Kenneth was admired for his carpentry and brick laying skills, but his passion was landscaping. Whenever he was in Maryland, New York or North Carolina, he was called upon by churches as well as individual homeowners to manage their yard. He always ensured that the end result was a well-manicured yard. Kenneth loved people and would always greet them with, “show some love” and if you disagreed with him on any subject, he would leave you with the last words “I love you too.” Some of the lyrics from a song that he would often sing represented his love for God and people. “I’ll shout it from the mountain top, I want my world to know, the Lord of love has come to me, I want to pass it on,” That’s how it is with God’s love once you experience it, you spread the love to everyone….you want to pass it on. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Luther Hemby, Sr; brother, Luther Hemby, Jr; sister, Ruebell Hemby. We loved him dearly but God loved him more. Kenneth memory will be forever cherished by his loving mother, Evelyn Hemby; his siblings, Deola Hemby, Oriel Wells (John), Joyce Hemby, Cynthia Baltimore, Patricia Anderson, Cornelius Hemby; two cousins-like sisters, Dorothy Hemby and Vivian Sharpe (Jesse); sister-in-law, Nora Hemby; aunt, Ella R. Davis; uncle, Alex Smith (Helen); a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins; church family and friends.
