Mr. Douglas Griggs

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2 Timothy 4:6-7 Mr. Douglas Griggs, affectionately known as “Spooky” to his family and friends, departed this earthly life to enter eternal rest on August 8, at Vidant Palliative Care in Greenville, North Carolina. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. Douglas was a 1970 graduate of the last graduating class at Bethel Union School, Bethel, NC. He was a hard worker and worked various jobs in his life. Douglas did farm work for many years. He retired from Black and Decker after twenty-five years of service. Douglas worked at Bafer Plastic Company in Washington, North Carolina. He retired from East Carolina University after fifteen years of service. Douglas’s most recent job was at the Greenville Daily Reflector delivering newspapers, a job he really loved to do. Douglas’s hobbies included raising chickens, hunting, fishing, cooking and mowing the grass on his new “Bad Boy Zero Turn”. “Spooky” was well known and loved by so many people. He touched the lives of many. Douglas had a great impact on this community, to know him was to love him. Douglas was a humble, kind, loving person with a heart of gold and he will be greatly missed by everyone. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Rosa Mae Griggs; sister, Doristine Griggs; granddaughter, Jewell Heath; sister-in-law, Marjorie Brown Bynum. Douglas leaves to cherish his precious memories a devoted wife of forty eight years, Camille Griggs of the home; two loving daughters, Clemmie German (Antonio) of Greenville, NC, Dedra Griggs of Greenville, NC; two sons, Tyrell Griggs of Snow Hill, NC, Tremaine Griggs of Greenville, NC; eight grandchildren, Taquan, Shaquan, Trell, Nick, Shakira, Tamia, Caleb, Dy’quavis; two great grandchildren, Chloe and Caiden; two loving sisters, Lori Ann Griggs, Cynthia Cherry both of Bethel, NC; five aunts, Lena Dixon of Bethel, NC, Hattie Dixon of Greenville, NC, Emily Best of Washington, NC, Ethel Diggs of Hackensack, NJ, Frances Best of Greenville, NC; one uncle, Superintendent Alexander Dixon of Scotland Neck, NC; three sisters-in-law, Susie Moore (Frank) of Bethel, NC, Betty Mooring of New York, NY, Charlotte Andrews (Earl) of Bethel, NC; a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
