Alton “Leroy” Taylor the son of the late William and the late Lula Bell Taylor was born on November 11, 1961 in Pitt County. He entered into eternal rest on December 13, 2017 at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC at 11:03am. Growing up in Martin County, Leroy earned the reputation of the song writer Leroy Brown “The Baddest Man in The Whole Town”. Later in life, Leroy gave his life to Christ. He served as a faithful Deacon at Free Temple Ministry in Windsor, NC under the leadership of the late Apostle T. L. Baylor, until Apostle Baylor entered into eternal rest. Leroy was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle Holiness Church in Bethel, NC under the leadership of Pastor Charles Staton, until his became ill. At an early age Leroy was a hard worker, he worked for J. B. Purvis Farm in Bethel, NC. Leroy attended Roanoke High School in Gold Point, NC. He was owner and operator of Taylor Concrete. Deacon Alton Leroy Taylor was a devoted husband to his wife, Prophetess Virginia Taylor for twenty-nine years and eight months. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Leroy loved his wife, Prophetess Virginia Taylor very much. Alton and Virginia was so close and people knew that, and for twenty-nine years and eight months we were together. My husband loved me and I loved him and I still love my husband. Leroy and he sister, Ida Staton was like Siamese twins, because they did almost everything together. Leroy was a lovable, kind hearted person, he loved people, loved talking to people, loved praying for people, and he was a prayer warrior. Leroy loved giving people an encouraging word, he loved praising God, talking about God, and you could not tell Leroy that he was not a preacher because he would get around family and friends and preach his heart out, telling someone about a man called Jesus. Leroy knew the word, and learned how to live by them. One of Leroy’s favorite song was “I’m Just a Nobody, Trying to Tell Everybody, About Somebody, Who Can Save Anybody”. This was indeed, Leroy’s great mission that he fulfilled until God called him home. Leroy had a heart of gold. He called himself, “Roy the Baby Boy” because his brothers and sisters spoiled him from the youngest to the oldest. Leroy Taylor will be missed by all. Leroy was preceded in death by one brother, Jessie Wilson; one sister, Lula Mae Hollis. Leroy leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Prophetess Virginia Taylor of the home, one daughter, Jacinda Gethers of Greenville, NC, one son, Mario Morring of Marietta, GA; five brothers, William Taylor (Annie) of Bethel, NC, Pastor James Taylor (Donnell), Roy Best all of Greenville, NC, Tommy Williams (Deloris) of Oak City, NC, Billy Keel (Shannon) of Winterville, NC; eight sisters, Clara Johnson (Henry), Eugenia Cherry both of Greenville, NC, Mary Taylor of Upper Marlboro, MD, Patricia Best (Johnnie) of Gray, TN, Annie Benjamin (Hurbert), Co-Pastor Ida Staton (Pastor Charles) both of Bethel, NC, Janice Frost of Washington, DC, Ada Lucas Williams of New Castle, DE; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one aunt, Ida Teele of Gold Point, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
